Pleased to meet you!
Dear friends,
In 2010, the publishing house received a package sent by a young Taiwanese illustrator. In a folder with a label on which she had written ‘Pleased to meet you!’, she had enclosed samples of one of her works, and accompanied them with a handwritten letter that read (I copy literally):
‘Dear
Mr. Vicente Ferrer Azcoiti
Ms. Begoña Lobo Abascal
My name is Chu-Li Chen, I am from Taiwan, and I currently live in Granda.
The first time I saw your books was five years ago, and they were ‘I Have No Words’ and ‘My First 80,000 Words’
At that time I was at the University of Brighton in England with Professor George Hardie!
After seeing these two books, I would like to say that I really enjoyed them and I would be delighted to work with you.
I am sending you the following project, which is called Human Imperfections and is composed by five flipbooks. In each of them an imperfection is presented, within the human being, for example: a woman that wants to always be skinny, a very big head full of worries, a cowardly person, an alcoholic, and a very long tongue, fruit of gossip.
In each flipbook, each person represents imperfections. And you can see how they act in each flip in this book.
I wish with all my heart that you like this project.
I am very grateful for the time you have given me:
Cordially, Chuli Chen’
In 2016, we published Chu-li’s book. In the end it is called Book of the Flaws of Others, and is already in our warehouse, available to readers.
Cordial greetings,
Vicente and Begoña
