Mission in Chicago
The 3rd Technical Conference on Children’s and Young Adult Books in the United States was held on 23 March in Chicago, Illinois, in the impressive building of Chicago Public Library.
The purpose of this conference was to promote the catalogue and new releases from Spanish publishers in the genre of children’s and young adult content to American customers and specifiers: distributors, booksellers, librarians, and purchasing managers of educational centres, particularly of bilingual Spanish-English institutions. The novelties presented by the participating Spanish publishing houses correspond to the following categories: children’s and young adult literature, illustrated albums, and complementary educational material (excluding textbooks).
We had the chance to interview a variety of professional profiles involved in the children’s book supply chain and evaluate the market potential of the Chicago area.
Media Vaca delivered the workshop ‘Explaining politics to children’ to participants, which especially interested many of the attending teachers. Some showed interest in acquiring copies for their schools and libraries; others were already familiar with them, having obtained them from LA Library, a bookshop in Los Angeles that occasionally sends our books to various places in the United States.
